The Big Chill

With hot temps in high gear, we found six refreshing spa treatments to help you escape the heat. What better way to cool down?

At The Elms Hotel & Spa in Excelsior Springs
Eucalyptus Bath, 30 minutes, $45
Unwind with a long soak in the tub as the cool, refreshing scent of eucalyptus soothes your senses and chilled peppermint washcloths are at the ready to wrap around your neck. Cap off the treatment with a cold plunge shower in the Grotto and a dip in the pool (both are included with your spa service).

Moroccan Detoxification Ritual, 105 minutes, $180
Revive lackluster end-of-summer skin with a duo of body scrubs—cooling green tea mint followed by invigorating lemon coffee—a moisturizing clay wrap, and a scalp and foot massage, all before muscles are massaged and a fig body butter is applied.

At Milagro Midwestern Spa & Collective in Overland Park
Custom Facial, 60 minutes, $95
The aestheticians at Milagro whip up custom masks and oils for facials at the time of service, blending together raw ingredients from their Maker Counter. Calming, soothing choices such as aloe, yogurt powder, coconut milk, and oils including rosehip seed, await skin that’s had enough sun and pool time.

Custom Body Wrap, 75 minutes, $110
Perfect after—or in lieu of—a day in the sun, a personalized full-body mask is created using kaolin clay, aloe and other skin-calming additions. After being cocooned in a wrap, the mask is rinsed away in a eucalyptus steam shower, and an oil (think almond, calendula, or kukui nut) is massaged over skin.

At Sunlight Day Spa in Overland Park
Go Backless, 45 minutes, $65
Designed for swimsuit and sundress season, this back massage and facial includes a cooling aloe, chamomile, and cucumber mask to take the heat off summer skin. Top it off with one of their made-in-house juices. Taste of Summer—a 100 percent raw, cold-pressed blend of watermelon, lime, mint, and sea salt—is light and refreshing.

At Woodside Spa in Westwood
Coconut Crush Sugar Body Polish, 45 minutes, $80
Forget about the weather and indulge in some me-time with a skin softening sugar and coconut-shell scrub followed by a moisturizing lemony coconut butter—then take your glowing skin for a refreshing dip in their cold plunge pool.
