Freida Rothman’s jewelry is designed to dazzle

Known for her luxe and layerable necklaces, bracelets and rings, designer Freida Rothman made a recent stop at Halls Kansas City to introduce her latest collection, Textured Ornaments. During the event, the supremely chic New Yorker collaborated with a local stylist to demonstrate how to layer the pieces; afterwards, she took time to tell Kansas City Spaces more about her work.

Kansas City Spaces: Tell us about your new collection.

Freida Rothman: My newest collection just debuted—Textured Ornaments. I fell in love with the fanciful elegance of textured matte gold balls and black rhodium zebra stripes that dance across this sophisticated collection accented by clear faceted stones that sparkle. This is a bold, new mixed metal and stone combination for Freida Rothman.

KCS: What inspired Textured Ornaments?

FR: I wanted to bring joy to jewels for the holidays. I was inspired to design a collection that was perfect for gifting—whether to yourself or from a loved one.

KCS: I’m sure there must be a jewelry designer counterpart to writer’s blockwhat do you do to re-energize when you hit a creative block?

FR: I always think first about my customer; I know her well—what she likes and what she wears. I look at what is in fashion as well. Trained as an artist, I start sketching and doodling to get my creativity going. I dream about new shapes and fall in love with a stone color or a different texture or metal combination. This gets me in touch with my designer side and it begins to flow.

KCS: Who is your typical client? In other words, what type of woman is she?

FR: She is modern and classic—and is always looking for something new to add to her jewelry collections. My customers have a style not an age to define them.

KCS: Who are some of your style icons?

FR: My customers!

KCS: Any tips on creating the perfect “stack”?

FR: Your arms are the limit as to how high you can go! I suggest you start with one signature bangle that suits your style and build up from there. We actually have a Freida Rothman #StartYourStack bracelet collection! Mixing metals, silver and gold, black rhodium and colored stones is the way to go. Even adding link bracelets and different widths looks fabulous.
