Sincerely Yours

Danielle Meister owns We Are Sincerely Yours

A new K.C. boutique combines all things lush and beautiful

At a time when many businesses are curtailing brick-and-mortar locations to focus on internet sales, a new local clothing boutique is doing the opposite. After successfully selling vintage clothing on Instagram the past year, Danielle Meister thought it would be useful to have a dedicated space to not only photograph and display the pieces but to offer customers a place to touch and try on the garments (something you can’t get on the internet). So she opened We Are Sincerely Yours at East 27th St. and Troost Ave. last November.

The airy, sun-drenched, 350-square-foot boutique features four racks of clothing and a sprinkling of accessories and lifestyle finds. One rack is dedicated to Meister’s friend and resident vendor, Leslie Kinsman, whose Instagram page Wunderhub Vintage has also been wildly successful at selling repurposed fashions. It showcases Kinsman’s love for ’70s fashion, bright colors and patterns. The other three racks feature Meister’s thoughtfully curated selection of vintage pieces and modern designs—meant to be worn together. She’s long enjoyed blending new and old styles in her own closet to create a look that’s fresh and contemporary, not one that mimics a past era.

“I look for silk, cotton and cashmere,” she says, “and for pieces that speak to the current trends and color palettes.”

When it comes to selecting new pieces, she’s focusing on designers producing well-made garments ethically and sustainably and those that have a story to them. With that in mind she’s assembled an impressive group of local clothing and jewelry designers including Hadley, Cham Cham Queen, GiGi Moon, and MeritMade and several others. Tadej leather goods, a line of handbags created by Meister’s husband, Matthew Taddy, has been especially popular.

Shoppers essentially get to experience an expanded version of Meister’s Instagram shop—the vintage pieces are there, along with a tightly edited and increasing selection of new clothing and accessories to pair with them, and the opportunity to get advice on how to wear them from Kinsman or Meister (who is also an established stylist).

The clothing on the racks is always changing and Meister is especially excited to debut a new line of stylized yoga wear this spring. This month she’s introducing a yearly subscription service entitled simply, I Love You. “Each month, the object of your affection will receive a beautifully wrapped gift and a handwritten note,” she explains. Sign up someone you love (including yourself).
