Bold design brings a bathroom to life

Having clients who are game for bold design puts a spring in many a designer’s step. Sarah Chaffee of Weltner Interiors was thrilled with the opportunity to freshen up an existing master bath with a crisp new look.

“The clients are a young, energetic family. They wanted an efficient layout in an existing bath that provided more closet and storage space along with separate vanities,” says Chaffee.

Confined to keeping the existing windows and accommodating more cabinetry without weighing the room down, Winters created custom, floating vanities to give the bathroom an airy feel. Custom makeup and hair-tool storage within the vanities keep the space organized and uncluttered.

Lucky to have clients so comfortable with color and pattern, Chaffee selected a bold geographic Walker Zanger tile for the floors and sheer, striped fabric for the windows.

“We created custom curtains using two different textiles—one opaque and one transparent—to maximize the natural light and maintain privacy, which was important,” says Chaffee.

Tall, thin mirrors flanked by Thomas O’Brien sconces accentuate the high ceiling. Besides bold pattern and color, Chaffee’s clients were comfortable with mixing metals.

“It wasn’t a tough sell,” she says. “They trusted that everything would come together.”
