Take part in KC Local Week with these events from area restaurants, shops and more
It’s time to celebrate all things Kansas City. And thanks to KC Local Week, the opportunities to support local shops and restaurants are far and wide. The annual event challenges Kansas Citians to shop, dine and experience what local businesses have to offer, whether it’s a bottle of Boys Grow ketchup or a new belt from Sandlot Goods.
Not sure where to start? Here’s a look at some events and promotions going on this week:
Today’s theme is “KCup of Jo Monday.” Grab a drink, whether it’s coffee, tea, a smoothie or juice, from your favorite local spot and post a picture with the hashtag #kclocalweek. And if you happen to find yourself in the Crossroads, stop by Hoopla for 20 percent off manicures and a massage.
Throw on your favorite Kansas City tee and grab a taco from your favorite local restaurant, but don’t forget to snap a photo to post. If you’re lost on where to get the perfect taco, details on a few of our favorites can be found here. If you saved up enough room for dinner, head to Plate, which will be hosting a KC Local Week happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. for $5. The event will feature cocktails from local spirits, as well as a chance to win a $25 gift card. More info on the event can be found here.
The KC Local Week challenge Wednesday is to share how you take care of yourself. Do you hit a local jogging trail, go to your favorite K.C. yoga studio or go for a massage? Whatever you do, share away with the #kclocalweek hashtag. Also happening Wednesday: a beauty happy hour with Hand + Land and t. Loft at Park Place in Leawood. From 3 to 6 p.m., get creative with Hand + Land’s beauty bar and snack on protein balls and beauty tonic provided by t. Loft at 11527 Ash St.
Thirsty? Today’s the day to treat yourself to some of Kansas City’s finest beverages. Check out Boulevard Brewing Company’s new visitor center, grab a cocktail at Tom’s Town or check out what urban winery KC Wineworks has to offer. But of course, don’t forget to capture the moment and post it with the designated hashtag. To see what else is going on Thursday, click here.
It’s date night, so kick off your weekend with tons of local events, from the Ethnic Enrichment Festival at Swope Park to Parkville’s annual Parkville Days on Main Street. For more ideas, head to KC Local Week’s website.
Gear up for fall by shopping at your favorite local boutiques. Some suggestions: If you’re on the hunt for women’s clothing, Standard Style, EJ’s, Feng, and Alysa Rene are great local options in Leawood. If you’re in Fairway, head to Miriam Garvey. The Crestwood Shops also offer great local boutiques like Peruvian Connection, George and Twill. KC Local Week will also be partnering with Howard’s Grocery, Cafe & Catering to give customers a sneak peek at new menu items from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased here.
