Weekend Roundup

Ken Whiteley & Friends will perform Sunday at Crown Center.

Stumped for things to do this weekend? Here are our picks for the best events in Kansas City, Feb. 19-21.

This weekend’s weather report calls for warmer temps in Kansas City, but whether you’re inside or outdoors, these weekend events are sure to keep you entertained.

Friday

Kansas City Ballet’s “Swan Lake”

The premiere production of this “timeless love story” by the Kansas City Ballet is one you don’t want to miss. The costumes and sets alone are enough to warrant a ticket to watch the classic story of Princess Odette and Prince Siegfried at Muriel Kauffman Theatre. Tickets are available here and here. The show runs through Feb. 28.

Local Life Third Fridays

Downtown Overland Park hosts a night of wine tasting, food sampling and live music from local businesses, including Homer’s Coffee, Aubrey Vineyards, The General Store & Co. and the Culinary Center of Kansas City. A silent auction from 6 to 8:30 p.m. will benefit The Pet Connection.

Saturday

KC Zoo’s Teddy Bear Clinic

Rips, tears, holes- the Kansas City Zoo can fix them all. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Kansas City Young Matrons will repair you or your child’s beat-up bear (or any stuffed animal) free of cost. Don’t forget to visit the penguins while you’re waiting.

Da Vinci: The Exhibition

Explore the history of one of the most renowned artists at this Union Station exhibit. The display includes more than 65 life-size inventions and dozens of fine art studies. You’ll get a closeup look of the sketches and works of the artist and the elements that influenced him. Tickets for members start at $8.95 and can be purchased here.

Pop-Up Yoga

One way to enjoy the outdoors this weekend: a free yoga class hosted by Pop-Up Yoga KC. The hour-long class outside of the Kansas City Museum is open to people of all skill levels. The class starts at noon, but a tour of the museum is available before and after the class. Don’t forget to bring your own mat- and a $5 or $10 donation

Sunday

Folk Fest

Take in the music of local artists from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Westin Crown Center. The annual gathering includes gospel music from Ken Whiteley & Friends, a square dance, an artisan marketplace and a closing concert. Tickets are $30 for adults and free for youth and children and can be purchased here.  For a full schedule of the day’s performances and events, click here.
