Weekend Roundup

Here’s what’s happening in Kansas City Jan. 6-8

Friday

First Friday

Take the KC Streetcar to your favorite downtown restaurant, or stop by the many art galleries in the Crossroads Arts District from 5 to 9 p.m. during the First Friday. We recommend the Sasha exhibit at the Todd Weiner Gallery, where five-year-old artist Sasha Weiner will feature selections from her lifetime of work. Proceeds from the purchase of Sasha’s artwork will go toward the purchase of art supplies for local schools. Click here for a list of other exhibits and events.

Saturday

Johnson County Home + Garden Show

If you’re making some changes to your home this year, or just need some inspiration, head to the Johnson County Home + Garden Show at the Overland Park Convention Center. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., hundreds of experts in remodeling, landscaping, decor and flooring will showcase their latest ideas and services. The show continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Click here for ticket information.

Sunday

3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off at Californos

Whether you’re a guest or a competitor, you’ll get a mouthful of flavor at the annual chili cook-off at Californos. Guests will vote in three categories, which include Best Vegetarian, Most Unusual and Spiciest. Tickets are $5 for guests and $15 for competitors. Tickets can be purchased here.

Presto, Mambo!

Treat your children to an afternoon of lively music and storytelling with the Kansas City Symphony’s Family Series. Sunday’s performance of Presto, Mambo! at 2 p.m. tells the tale of Max, who travels from Helzberg Hall to Latin America. What happens throughout the story is sure to entertain the whole family. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children, and can be purchased here.
