Patricia O’Dell offers her advice for decorating for the holidays on a budget
Q: My husband and I just got married this fall. I want to make our Christmas special, but we just bought a new house and the idea of trying to buy enough ornaments to fill a tree sounds overwhelming and expensive. Any thoughts? — Kathleen O’Brien
A: Any of the discount retailers sell big boxes of glass ball ornaments. Whether you decide on silver and gold, red and green or a cheerful mix of jewel tones, you can buy dozens for very little money. Then start buying one or two ornaments you love on sale after Christmas each year. You’ll have more than you can hang in no time. Trust me.
