Move over First Fridays. If you want to really expand your art education, mark your calendars for Third Thursdays at Johnson County Community College’s Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. Each month the museum brings in two artists working within the Kansas City region for a short, 20-minute presentation accompanied by discussion between the artists and the audience. Although the event is intended to build relationships and interaction between students and artists in the community, Third Thursdays is free and open to public, allowing anyone in the area to become a student of the arts. April’s event, held April 16 from 3:30 to 4:30, features Hong Chun Zhang, a Chinese-born artist whose work balances the culture and styles of her homeland and her current home, and Jill Downen, a sculptor and visual artist whose work combines art and architecture. nermanmuseum.org
