Kansas City has always been a hotbed of jazz. Although we may no longer be the “Paris of the Plains” as in the ’20s and ’30s, Kansas City’s musical legacy lives on, continuing to draw in musicians from around the world. This month, reconnect with Kansas City’s jazz history while celebrating modern artists by taking in a performance of The Mosaic Project on March 14. Headed up by Grammy award-winning artist Terri Lyne Carrington, The Mosaic Project is a celebration of women in jazz and features some of the most prominent female vocalists and instrumentalists on the jazz scene from the last few decades. Soak in the surroundings of the historic Gem Theater while listening to modern musical styles for a night you won’t forget. americanjazzmuseum.org
